Silver. 37 mm. 25.2 grams. Plain edge. Struck from the original dies with a star below the date. The St. Louis Agricultural and Mechanical Association was established in 1856 and ran annual fall fairs from that year through 1860 before pausing during the Civil War years. Fairs resumed after war.

This medal was awarded to Mrs. Granville Snell (née Emily Ann Poage, 1818-1897) of Monroe County, Missouri. The Report of the St. Louis Agricultural and Mechanical Association 1860 explains that Mrs. Snell was awarded this silver medal for woolen blankets:

Woolen Blankets (a pair). — The blankets on exhibition were all suggestive of skill in manufacture and comfortable elegance. They were all superior, but the awarding committee, more skilled than we were in such things, decided that two pair were superior to the rest, and decreed the first premium, Diploma, to Mrs. H. D. Wheeler, Vincennes, Ind.; and the second premium, Medal, to Mrs. Granville Snell, Monroe county, Mo. There were eight entries for the premiums offered for these useful articles of domestic manufacture.

The medal shows its age, with even wear, a few scratches in the reverse field, and marks around the edges. Gunmetal-blue and antique silver patina cover each side.
