RARE. Nearly all Ohman countermarks appear on Victorian Newfoundland fifty cent pieces, almost exclusively under the Queen’s portrait. This is a remarkable exception, previously unseen and unrecorded. Nils Ohman was a St. John’s jeweller who later moved to Montreal. Credit to Warren Baker, who wrote the definitive biography of Ohman as part of his 2006 countermark reference, Marked Impressions.
