1853 Arrows and Rays Seated Liberty Quarter, VF

1853 Arrows and Rays Seated Liberty Quarter, VF

The Arrows and Rays design was used for a single year. The added motifs signified a decrease in the amount of silver each quarter contained. Prior to the weight reduction, the discovery of vast quantities of gold in California had made silver relatively scarce. The public hoarded silver coins in response from 1850 to 1853, when these coins were issued.

This circulated, collector-grade example has super original surfaces, with golden-olive, blue, violet, and russet tones on each side. The reverse nearly qualifies for the XF level, while LIBERTY is strong on the shield.
